Rebecca and Damone's story actually started about 20 years ago. Becca was a little girl doing cartwheels on the football field waiting for her brother to finish practice. Damone was a busy teenager who was on the same team as Becca's older brother Eric.
Their mother's knew one another so they saw each other while they were growing up. They went to each other's family bbq’s and gatherings, but Damone saw Rebecca as a little girl and Becca saw Damone as an annoying teenager. Plus she was too busy being a cheerleader.
As they got older Rebecca got a summer job as a camp counsellor at a cheerleading gym about one block away from Damone's house. Damone was on break from college so he was home that summer. His mom was kind enough to make Becca lunch during the week so Damone would pick her up from work and walk her back after lunch. It sounds sweet right?! But he probably only did it because his mom made him.
Fast forward to December 2021. Damone's mom mentioned to him that Eric got married. Damone's curiosity made him wonder how Becca is? Maybe it was because he hadn't seen her in a few years. So he decided to reach out to say hi and catch up. He was going on a snowboarding trip that February so he asked if she wanted to go shopping with him to pick up a few items. Knowing him made it easy for her to say “sure, why not”.
That March Becca went to Jamaica for a week and they spoke everyday and made plans to spend time together when she came back. Becca now 25, Damone didn't think she was a little girl any longer and Damone being 30 wasn't an annoying teenager anymore. They quickly realized that they had a lot in common. They shared their love for sports, music, movies and especially anime.
By August of that year they were living together in downtown Toronto. After nine months of being downtown they bought their first home and moved to Etobicoke. They wasted no time and in November 2024 they welcomed their son, baby August. After August came Damone decided it was time to make it official and here we are.
Their journey was not a typical one and some would argue that it was a bit out of order. They took risks and put a lot of faith in God and each other with an unknown future. But it's their journey that has led them to decide on forever.
